The Iron Giant is the sequel of the successful horror movie franchise The Iron Giant. It's written and directed by Greg Garcia, who did the first film as well as the prequels to the third in addition to the eventual finale. I think it's safe to say that he's done it all. The animation house Blur Pictures now owns the rights to the Iron Giant series and it's looking like they'll make a new animated movie to replace the failed Harry Potter project. No release date has been given for either yet.

As far as the Iron Giant sequel goes, I expect it'll pick up where the first movie left off (so far I've only seen a few minutes of the movie). That means more comedy as Kip (Aaron Ruell) gets kicked into the next dimension while helping save the human race. I don't think there will be any more traditional stories this time around, instead of the characters will have to find their own ways to go about the plot. I'm hoping the trailers and commercials give us a better idea as to what to expect from this film, since the trailers just aren't giving much away.

Hopefully The Iron Giant 2 will live up to the reception both audiences and the studio itself had for the first movie. If not I'm afraid the second installment will be an animated disaster and we'll be left with just the original, eighties style cartoon for entertainment. That's not a bad thing though, as the Iron Giant series is a classic that deserves to be enjoyed even when it doesn't look like it's going to happen.
